• Introduction
In this article we explain the steps you need to do after being accepted in a job.🥳🥳🥳
You need to do them after finishing step 10 of the 10 steps to start a medical residency in Germany. All steps are here:
• Decision about being accepted
After you do a job interview, you will usually get a positive or negative reply about being accepted either:
Directly after the interview (usually the positive replies, the negative ones are mostly left for email/mail) | A few days/weeks later by mail or in an email |
• What you get in case of being accepted for the job
Always | Sometimes in addition |
---|---|
Job contract (🇩🇪 der Arbeitsvertrag) 🥳🥳🥳 | Job promise (🇩🇪 die Einstellungszusage) |
Often, the hospitals need 1–4 weeks to have it completed because it needs many signatures and many employees need to see it. But in 98% of the cases, if the head of department told you that you will get a job contract, then you will get it! It is only a matter of time. | This term is explained in the page for terms. You need this if you, for example, are going to apply for the 🇩🇪 Approbation in some German states, or you need it for your visa. Otherwise, this document is redundant (🇩🇪 überflüssig). It does not force the hospitals too to hire you (if they changed their mind). |
• Working permit (die Arbeitserlaubnis)
You will get it from the foreigners’ registration office (🇩🇪 die Ausländerbehörde). If you need to apply yourself for it depends on your visa/residence status:
Visa 16 or Blue Card (🇩🇪 die Blaue Karte) | Permanent residence (der Daueraufenthalt)/Deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit |
You should take the work contract to the foreigners’ office and apply for it (the job promise could be enough too). Without it, you can NOT start working. In some cases, if the hospital called the foreigners’ office and got the green light, then you can start working. But this is seldom to happen. | You do not need to apply for a working permit 🥳 You can work where you like and when you like. |
• Send the required documents to hospital:
To be hired, the hospital requires a few documents from you.
– German medical license
Either permanent (🇩🇪 die Approbation) or temporary (🇩🇪 die Berufserlaubnis). They ask firstly for an authenticated copy from Germany. Sometimes, they ask you to bring the original copy with you later on.
– Work certificates (🇩🇪 der Arbeitszeugnis/die Arbeitszeugnisse)
You should have them if you worked after the internship year. They are nonetheless not always required, but you should send them. You can see here how you would profit from that: “🇩🇪 Why are work certificates (employment references) (Arbeitszeugnisse) important?”
– German police clearance certificate (das Führungszeugnis)
A particular type. The hospital will write you which kind they need.
– Proof of immunization against measles (die Masern)
We explained how you can prove that in this article.
– Proof of immunization against or recent infection with SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus)
Many hospitals do not require that any longer.
– Tax number (die Steuernummer)
The hospital will take care of this for you if this is your first time working in Germany.
– Documents from the hospital that you should fill and sign
You simply need to read and sign them. Some of these documents need to be filled. For example:
• A form where you should fill your information: Name, if married, number of children, previous experience, bank account number, etc.
• Confidentiality agreement
• Accepting the values of the hospital (particularly in Christian hospitals)
• …
You can think of them like the “Terms of service” that you agree to when installing a PC program or opening an email account (without reading them 🤣). Nonetheless, some of these documents are important. You should read them, particularly if you are new in Germany.
